Silk Painting

Montpelier VT

Sarah Munro is a Vermont artist with strong ties to the central Vermont community and the creator of her well-known silk scapes which have been selling nationally for many years. Often these silk scapes can be seen hanging in windows in Montpelier and other communities across the country. Sarah paints on silk using Procion dyes and Gutta resist. Good fun, play, and shared conversation between oil paint, gesso, paper, canvas, texture, shape, and color conspire to create her Sacred Space paintings.

She received her degree from Goddard College after attending the School of the Museum of the Fine Arts in Boston, MA. Currently, Sarah shows her work in a number of Vermont galleries. She has been selling her work for 27 years.

Sarah was a Featured Artist at Art on Main in February, 2005.

I experience absolute joy entering my studio after a night of dreams and unremembered thoughts. I pick up my brush and paint and listen for, and hear, where the color is asking to go. To sense the evolution of each piece and to honor that voice as a vehicle for expression of the collective, waiting-to-be-born, is the very essence of being in the present moment, peace. This is the peace I can offer to the world.

Mark LeGrand is an Americana Roots singer-songwriter living and making music in Vermont’s capital city. With artistic integrity and an intuitive musicality, LeGrand has built a repertoire of original material that brings a contemporary self-awareness to traditional themes. With influences stemming from the likes of Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson, LeGrand’s work offers a refreshing blend of originality, authenticity and style. His is the voice of an individual who has walked many a mile in his own boots, felt the bumps in the road, and who shares his lessons from the heart.

Mark LeGrand and Sarah Munro are two of Vermont’s finest musicians performing regularly in and around the Green Mountains. They have played at such venues as The Onion River Arts Main Stage, The Chandler Music Hall, The Flynn Space, The Canoe Club in Hanover NH and Cafe Lena’s in Saratoga NY, to name a few. Their 1997 debut CD Mischievous Angel was met with widespread excitement, staying at number one on Goddard College’s radio station WGDR for five weeks. Texas music icon Jimmie Dale Gilmore writes “I think the greatest function of music is when spirit comes through it and to me, that’s what happens with these songs.” In 2002 Mark released a solo CD with his Lovesick Band. All Dressed Up earned critical acclaim and received honors for “Best of 2002” from The Burlington Free Press and Seven Days newspapers and enjoyed international airplay via the Third Coast Music Independent Radio Network in Europe, Australia and South America. Esteemed Texas music critic John Conquest gives All Dressed Up three and a half stars and proclaims, “This one really sparkles.” William Craig of the Dartmouth area’s Valley News says, “Mark LeGrand writes songs Hank Williams might well have sent to the top of a different era’s country charts.” Seven Day’s describes Mark as one of “Central Vermont’s finest treasures.” “From Bonnie Raitt to Steve Earle, Hank Williams to John Prine, along with their original material these two traverse the dusty landscape of soulful blues, folk and country music, promising to bring you a memorable evening of fine Americana Roots Music.”
