Since 1981, Annie Caswell has been a freelance
artist, involved with projects ranging from murals to designing wooden mobiles.
She is drawn to express herself in clay and natural materials, sculpting the
human form. Annie’s sculptures are all individually hand-built and then twice
fired. First, the pieces are bisqued and then either raku-, pit-fired, or
glazed using red iron oxides. Sometimes sacred objects adorn the sculptures. Traveling has been a great inspiration for her
pieces. She has been working on a goddess and yoga series for the past
several years. “I translate the rhythm and mood of the spirit I feel into the
clay. Inspired by people worldwide, I interpret their stories through body
postures, shapes, clothing, and movements.” She enjoys sculpting in snow, sand, or whatever
she encounters. “If I can bring some awareness to this diversity through my sculptures,
I’ve succeeded.” Annie has taught at a number of organizations,
including her own Creative Crossings Art Studio. |
